Alden Nowlan, Selected Poems

Fringe perhaps but it’s important to note that there is substantial evidence that confirms that poetry is a conduit for developing core capacities such as empathy, compassion, and perspective taking of other people.

Nowlan is a world-renowned poet and he writes about animals and their interface with humans.

Nowlan and other poet’s work have been used in veterinary education and there is a group of veterinary professionals from around the world who host meetings and a conference on veterinary medicine and literature.

Don’t miss Nowlan’s pieces entitled “Weakness, The Bull Moose “ and “The Fynch Cows. If you dare, do bring a piece of poetry to a staff meeting. Invite people to read out loud and take a few minutes to talk about the impact of the message and what it means for veterinary professionals and veterinary teams.
