Whale Wars...Good or Bad Tactics?
So I got into this discussion with an associate of mine the other day and we were talking about the show "Whale Wars." In case you haven't seen it, the reality TV show follows Paul Watson (who I believe left Greenpeace because they weren't radical enough for his tastes) and his crew aboard the Sea Shepard. The Sea Shepard is a conservation group out to enforce the International Whaling Ban's moratorium on commerical whaling. Japan has basically tried to get around this by taking ships out to do "scientific research" which involves killing whales, and is basically resuming their commercial whaling activities. The crew on the Sea Shepard basically sets out to make it really difficult for the Japanese boats to harpoon & harvest the whales using tactics like throwing stink bombs aboard their boat and tailing them throughout the waters where they're known to fish. My associate thinks their tactics are absurd and pointless, but I respect their bravery and tenacity to fight with those who ignore the rules and use loopholes to resume unethical practices. Plus the media attention they generate is massive which helps get the word out. What does everyone else think...it's a dodgy issue so would love to hear some more opinions.
