Any VLE'ers out there?

I was at the VLE this year and just wanted to see if anyone from there was in here!! :)

Another Zeta Class enthusiast!

I also am an alum of the Zeta class this past June! My classmate here at Western U and I have been trying to stay wet, and trying to get others to dip their feet in but are having a hard time getting ideas to keep things going. Has anyone else ran into this and found something that has worked? Thanks! Linsey

VLE and staying wet

The VLE is a program open to students and faculty from around the world. To date, it has been offered the first week of June for the past six years. Students and faculty from every veterinary school in the US, Canada, the Caribbean, New Zealand, most of Australia and a number of schools in the UK and Western Europe as well as South Africa have attended. There is usually some space for a few interested practitioners too. We focus on experiential learning as it relates to emotional intelligence, servant leadership and communication for medical professionals. The program has allowed participants to consider where they are as a person and a professional, where they want to be, and explore how to get there in real time. Over 85% of participants have told us in letters the experience was life changing...their words, not mine. The event is so impactful that many have likened it to falling into a pool. They are immersed in the water of self discovery...for lack of a better metaphore. Following with that, our weekly list serve, monthly newsletters and now the EVT and all it's materials serve as a regular opportunity to "get wet" with more leadership information. Why is it so important and impactful...because as every veterinarian will tell you, the medicine is the easy part, the people stuff will kill you. Client issues, staff issues, communication, turn over, morale, frustration, etc etc etc. VLE and EVT, huge steps forward for equipping health care team members with what they need to navigate the turbulent issues in their daily professional (and personal) lives.

VLE Is...

Hi Michelle, VLE stands for the Veterinary Leadership Experience. You can find out more information about it here: http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/orgVLE/2009/09AVMA-VLEbrochure.pdf I've never been but have always wanted to go! I don't know what staying "wet" means though...must be a VLE thing.

What's this now?

What is VLE and why is it wet?

VLE

It's the veterinary leadership experience (hence, VLE) and it's a program that does personal leadership training for veterinary students, faculty and practitioners around the country. It's a five-day immersion training where vets, students and those who teach veterinary medicine can focus on how to become the best leaders they can be...by being the best people they can be. The "being wet" comes from the idea that after any immersion training, we come away feeling empowered and ready to make a huge impact, but the wear and tear of every day life "dries us out". Staying in contact with others who have caught this vision, via sites like EVT, keeps us "wet", or focused on all we learned at VLE.

fellow VLEer

Hi fellow zeta class person! I was also at VLE this past June and am excited we have been able to put up this forum for everyone to connect. Hopefully, we can spread the word - maybe Rick can mention the forum on his emails he sends out. Hope you are well and staying "wet"! Jen Schori (group 2 ROCKS!)
