As a child I wanted to rescue every little critter I could find. I rescued baby birds fallen from trees, lizards caught by my own cat, and any little furry thing that would slow down long enough for me to catch it. I had several different types of pets, including several of those little turtles that swim around in the plastic bowl with the little island in the middle complete with a plastic palm tree. As much as I enjoyed helping these animals, there was also a medical fascination for me...

Mention the words “team-building activity” to any group of veterinary professionals, and you’ll hear nothing but moans and groans from the team. A few may even try to sneak out the back way!

It’s not known why this reaction is so common; it seems as if team-building activities acquired a bad reputation that haunts it to this day. Yet even the team will agree that it’s better to work in a hospital where people know each other enough to care about each other, help each other, and band together in this sometimes turbulent profession.
